About

The High Museum of Art is the main art museum of the Southeast, on Peachtree Street in Midtown Atlanta. It is part of the Woodruff Arts Center campus, alongside the Atlanta Symphony Orchestra and the Alliance Theatre. The white, light-filled buildings are an attraction of their own; the original Richard Meier building is joined to newer wings by skyway bridges.

The collection covers American and European art, African art, folk and self-taught art, photography, decorative arts and contemporary work, spread across the Wieland Pavilion, the Stent Family Wing and the Anne Cox Chambers Wing. Special exhibitions rotate through the year, and most are included with admission, though some big shows need a separate ticket. Online maps show the layout and where the ramps are. Plan on two to three hours.

The High is open Tuesday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from noon to 5 p.m., and closed Mondays. The last ticket is sold an hour before closing. In fall 2026, adult tickets cost $23.50 plus fees, and children 5 and under get in free. You can leave and come back the same day. Coat check is free, and large backpacks and umbrellas must be checked. The galleries run cold to protect the art, so bring a layer.

The Woodruff Arts Center parking garage is on Arts Center Way, and the Arts Center MARTA station is across the street. CJ's Cafe serves food and coffee. Piedmont Park and the Atlanta Botanical Garden are a short drive or a long walk to the east, and the rest of Midtown's restaurants line Peachtree Street.

Accessibility

The High Museum of Art is wheelchair accessible. The museum says all interior spaces, including galleries, classrooms and the Museum Shop, are wheelchair accessible. Use the double doors on either side of the revolving doors at the main entrance, where security officers can help.

Accessible parking is on the southeast side of levels P5 and P4 of the Woodruff Arts Center garage on Arts Center Way. The double elevators on the southeast side of the garage go straight up to the campus level, where the museum entrance is. If you use the single elevator on the northwest side, ride it to street level (P5), turn right, and take a second elevator up one floor. From the Arts Center MARTA station, take the elevator two floors up to the street, cross Arts Center Way, and take the elevator one floor to the campus level. MARTA Mobility and rideshare drop-offs work best on Arts Center Way.

Manual wheelchairs and lightweight folding stools are free to borrow from a security officer in the Taylor Lobby, first come, first served. Seating is in the galleries on every level. Every restroom has an accessible stall and baby changing, and single-user family restrooms are on several levels of the Wieland Pavilion, the Stent Family Wing and the Anne Cox Chambers Wing.

For visitors who are blind or have low vision, verbal description tours and touch-based learning need three weeks' notice at access@high.org, and magnifiers are allowed for reading labels. All museum-produced gallery videos are captioned. ASL interpretation, live captioning and audio description for public conversations need three weeks' notice. Assistive listening devices serve select in-gallery programs.

A social story, a sensory guide and a sensory map help you prepare. The map shows quieter, less crowded and low-light spaces. Medically necessary supplies such as portable oxygen are allowed; ask at the desk for a sticker. Service animals are welcome, but therapy and emotional support animals are not.
